HVAC Systems for Healthcare Facilities

Infection control, patient safety and regulatory compliance depend on HVAC systems that perform to precise standards. We deliver HTM and HBN-compliant maintenance, engineering projects and water services for NHS trusts, private hospitals and healthcare estates.

Healthcare HVAC Challenges

Healthcare buildings present some of the most demanding HVAC requirements of any sector. Ventilation in operating theatres, isolation rooms and clean rooms must comply with HTM 03-01, with specified air change rates, pressure cascades and filtration standards that directly affect infection prevention outcomes.

Critical environments such as theatres, ICUs and pharmacies require precise temperature and humidity control around the clock. These are clinical systems, and they must be maintained by engineers who understand the tolerances and the consequences of deviation.

Complex domestic water systems in healthcare settings create elevated Legionella risk. Long pipe runs, variable occupancy, multiple storage vessels and thermostatic mixing valves all increase the likelihood of bacterial colonisation if water hygiene management is not rigorous.

Regulatory Compliance

Healthcare HVAC compliance spans multiple regulatory frameworks. HTM 03-01 sets the standard for ventilation in healthcare premises, defining air change rates, pressure differentials, filtration grades and testing regimes. These are requirements that CQC inspectors and infection prevention teams audit against.

Water systems fall under HTM 04-01 and HSE ACoP L8, requiring documented risk assessments, written schemes of control and a demonstrable audit trail. Our engineers generate the compliance records that facilities teams need.

  • HSE ACoP L8: Legionella control
  • CQC Regulation 15: Premises and equipment

Environments and Systems We Support

Our healthcare experience spans operating theatres with ultra-clean ventilation and HEPA filtration, ICUs requiring precise temperature and pressure control, isolation rooms with pressure cascades, and MRI suites with dedicated cooling requirements.

Beyond clinical areas, we maintain pharmacies, sterile services departments, pathology labs, kitchens, mortuaries and general ward environments, each with distinct ventilation, temperature and humidity requirements.

The plant we work on includes AHUs, chillers, boilers, heat pumps, split and VRF systems, fan coil units, pressurisation units and BMS platforms from Trend, Honeywell and Siemens.
